This year we decided to take the kids to the Swiss Alps during Christmas Break after Lapland, to learn how to ski and we chose Grindelwald for our destination. We stayed by the Eiger Mountain and learned all about the Bernese Mountain Region and Eiger’s history. We stayed at the Hotel Belvedere and had an incredible stay. From being so close to Bodni Arena to enjoying the outside Fondue Gondola, the entire time was breathless, priceless and beyond memorable.
After our Lapland trip we flew to Zurich and drove to Grindelwald. We stopped in Lucerne for lunch and had an amazing Italian meal at Mamma Leone. The car ride from Zurich to Grindelwald was very scenic and I highly recommend driving to Grindelwald for a day or two if you have the time. It is a small ski resort town, nothing like Zermatt or Courchevel 1850, which made it very appealing to us, since it was the first time they were skiing. They both did great and although it’s very frustrating to slow down on a slope, we yelled out Pizza more often than Papa John’s 😉
We had the BEST cheese fondue experience ever and I highly recommend their Gondolas even if you’re not planning on staying there.
After Grindelwald we went back to Zurich to celebrate New Year’s Eve. Unfortunately we were all tired from skiing early that day and driving back, so we spent midnight in bed but still had a great time walking around Zurich and had an amazing dinner at Cantinetta Antinori. Ironically enough, we had better Italian food on Switzerland than we did when we were in Rome! Say what?!
See you next time, Switzerland!
